Description
Republic of Ireland Home Football Shirt Trikot Maglia 1985 Signed by Steve Staunton
Very rare shirt, as it is the only example I have seen with this collar and crest combination. They first used this collar in early 1985 with a crest style that had been used in late 1984 I believe, and later in 1985 they used the same shirt material, but with a green and white only collar and a plain white shamrock crest. This size is also very rare and most likely only reserved for kitroom stock, as they would usually only use Large and XL sizes. So it is very possible that this is a match shirt used in a friendly or underage game. The number set on the back, made by a company called Stahl, was used in the late 80’s and early 90’s, and I have seen it on number sets for underage international teams. The shirt is signed by legendary player Steve Staunton, who did wear “3” for much of his career being a left back. He had started playing for Dundalk around this time before moving to Liverpool in 1986, and he would have been 16 or so at this point. It is possibly an underage/schoolboys shirt belonging to him from 1985, but we are selling this primarily as a very rare original shirt from 1985, signed by Steve Staunton.
In Good vintage, worn condition, compared to similar shirts of this age. Has some stains, as pictured. Number set and signature are still very good.
Size Adults Large equivalent, 40/42 on tag.
